It's the day of Roy and Hayley's wedding and Hayley is in her
dressing gown at Alma's when Audrey and Maxine arrive to do her
hair and make up. Over at the flat, Martin calms a nervous Roy.
Hayley's Aunty Monica and Uncle Bert arrive at Alma's flat and
Hayley tells them both how happy she is that they turned up, to
which (the not really understanding) Uncle Bert replies "Come
on now Harold, put a pair of trousers on and come home we me and
your Aunty". Les wonders what Toyah is doing all dressed
up, and when she tells him she's going to be bridesmaid, he sends
her up to her room, where, assisted by the lovely Spider she escapes
out of the back window. Everyone's on their way to the church
but what they don't know is that Les has tipped off the press
and there's a couple of hacks waiting outside of the church. When
Emily finds out, she stops Roy and Martin in their car before
they get to the church, and Roy has to break the news to Hayley
in her car that the wedding's off. Or is it? Everyone traipses
back to the cafe, disappointed, and Roy and Hayley have a heart
to heart when she thanks him for trying to make her dream come
true. However all's not lost. With the guests in the cafe and
the bride and groom themselves, Jessica holds a ceremony right
there and then and blesses the relationship, with (the more understanding
this time) Uncle Bert giving the bride away. Just when Roy thinks
he can't possibly be any happier, Hayley surprises him by announcing
she's had her surname changed by deed poll from Patterson to Cropper.
As the happy couple leave the Street for their honeymoon in York,
Hayley throws the bouquet and it's hard to know who's more surprised,
Ken or Deirdre, when Deirdre catches it squarely. Janice takes
one of the pans tied to the back of the wedding car and chases
Les down the cobbles with it for spoiling Roy and Hayley's church
blessing.
After Mike's attempts to contact Julia lead nowhere, he calls
at her flat, only to find that she's moved out and taken all her
stuff with her. Curiouser and curiouser. But then, he receives
a package in the post, and it contains pictures of the two of
them in bed together. Mike is on edge for a few days until Julia
calls him and demands £10,000 for the negatives. Things
might look bad for Mike right now but they look even worse for
poor Alma. Mike is just about to tell her about his night with
Julia when Alma comes out of the bedroom in her dressing room,
telling Mike she'd found a lump in her breast. He promises her
the best treatment money can buy and before you can say "BUPA"
she's seen the doctor and been referred to a specialist at a breast
clinic later this week. Deirdre notices Mike's distraction at
work and tells him she's there for him as a friend if he wants
to talk about anything.
The lovely Spider develops a crush on Nita and she invites
him to her flat above the corner shop for dinner, but she's only
interested in his friendship. He doesn't realise this though,
and starts getting all misty-eyed about meeting the right girl
to settle down with and have children. Poor Spider, she's not
worthy of you, petal.
Over at Curly's house, Kevin and Tyrone are making themselves
at home. Kevin plans a romantic night in with Alison when Tyrone
offers to go out, which was rather decent of him. However, just
as Kev and Alison start snogging on the sofa, in walks Tyrone
and Marcus and Kev has to shell out a tenner to get rid of them
both. Result! Tyrone's plan worked once again.
Watch out Canada, Nick Tilsley's on his way over with a one
way ticket and histrionics. Leanne decides she's not going to
sit in on her own every night and cry over him and organises a
night out with Toyah and Sharon in town. Ashley, bless him, does
his best to look after her and asks uncle Fred for a reduction
in her rent now she's on her own, but Fred won't hear of it and
reminds Ashley Leanne is still a married woman. "And you
know the trouble with married women?" he asks his nephew,
"Husbands!"
And that's about that for this week's update.
Glenda :)
