Steve and Lloyd fight over the fixtures and fittings (broken chairs and cracked mugs) and the star employee (Eileen) at Streetcars as they decide to set up rival cab firms on the street.  Eileen’s wooed by the promise of a comfy cushion, non-stop Magic FM and a semi-nude picture of Tom Cruise on the wall by her desk. Les thinks he’s negotiating better terms and conditions between the sparring partners when neither of them wants him all that much.  After a fight in the cab office, Lloyd walks out with the office fan and a tin of broken biscuits.  But it’s left to Liz and Eileen to get the two lads back together when Eileen bangs their hands together and Liz makes Steve apologise to Lloyd and then cleans behind his ear with a hanky she’s just spit on. It’s agreed that Lloyd will get the new license in his name and the two lads shake hands on the deal but decline on the hug.

Liz further embarrasses her son when she sets him up on a blind date with Shelley.  Bev and Liz moan that their kids can’t find someone solid, reliable, dependable… and as the light bulb pings over their heads they all go to the pizza place in the precinct. When Steve and Shelley find out what their mums have done, they walk out in mutual maternal amusement.  Back at the Rovers the two of them have a drink together, under the evil eye of Charlie Stubbs, local builder of the parish and general ne’er do well. Boo, hiss, etc.

Shelley overhears Charlie and Tracy in the Rovers planning their separate nights out and it’s clear neither of them have made plans to look after Amy. Tracy swans off leaving Charlie to return to the flat to mind her child but he hops on a bus and goes straight into town. Shelley overhears all of this in the Rovers, alerts Steve and the two of them break into Charlie and Tracy’s flat to rescue little Amy. They don’t find the child but they do find a note that Tracy’s left for Charlie saying that Amy’s with Sarah Platt.  When the forces of evil (Charlie and Tracy) find out what Steve and Shelley have done, they storm into the Rovers and cause a big scene, growl a bit at the locals and then slink out licking their wounds when it becomes clear to Tracy that Charlie doesn’t give a stuff enough to check on Amy before going out boozing.  Anyway, Charlie’s now got his eye on Shelley and reckons there’s still something between them when Shelley bars Tracy from the Rovers and lets him stay.

In a blatant attempt to ingratiate herself with the factory girls, Leanne takes them out for pizza and plonk. But it all goes horribly wrong when she overhears them gossip about her - they reckon she’s no better than a high class prossie with a taste for older men.  She throws them all out and sits with Janice who tells her she shouldn’t have expected anything less, not when she’s sleeping with the enemy.  Lost and alone, Leanne reckons she’s better than the knicker stitchers and decides to make mates with the sales rep who rings her up at work and is always dead friendly on the phone.

Sean finds out that his real dad isn’t the actor Tim Healey after all which is a right disappointment ‘cos he probably could have got him free tickets for Billy Eliott. It turns out his dad is Paul Jones the plumber. But how to find him?  Adam suggests starting online. It always works for me - when the mind boggles, the fingers google.

Adam and factory girl Jo start making eyes at one another in the Rovers and there’s the frisson of excitement as the two of them realise they could be falling in lust. But Jo’s worried that he’s just after her for what she knows behind the scenes at the factory. Does he fancy her or the factory? Is he going out with Jo just to get into ladies pants?

Clare and Ashley return from their jollies and there’s panic as Clare’s rushed to t’hospickle when she can’t feel the baby move any more. All’s well at the ultrasound and the Peacocks celebrate with lunch in town. When they return home there’s a woman from the family court to discuss Matt Ramsden’s access to little Josh. She says it’s not a problem that she’s waited all afternoon in their house as she’s had Fred for company –although she should be warned Fred’s proposed to women he’s spent less time with.  The court woman makes Ashley face up to the fact that Matt Ramsden has human rights, or whatever they’re called, and has started a process that however unpleasant for Ashley and Clare, will legally have to run its course.

Charlie gives Keith 48 hours to get out of number 6.  Keith can’t bear to argue with Charlie, he starts packing to go and live with his sister in Bournemouth but Craig’s got other plans and refuses to budge.  Jack helps Keith pack and Tracy swans around with a tape measure thinking she’s going to be moving in there to play happy families with Charlie and Amy. But the way Charlie has been eyeing up Shelley this week, I reckon Ms Barlow should think on.

Ken starts tutoring David at home but when Ken has to look after Amy, Ken tells David to go to the Barlow’s for his next lesson.  It’s all going well with Ken getting David interested in history until Blanche starts butting in about onions and poems about spotty dogs.

And Diggory’s fortunes are failing so in a last ditch attempt to feed his wallet he decides to open a pizza parlour in the baker’s shop with Tyrone and Molly helping out.

And that’s just about that for this week.

Glenda
