Another eventful week here. You may also have heard that real
life actress Barbara Knox who plays Rita is to leave her husband,
it's in the tabloids here.
Ken finds out that Emily still holds a key to Deidre's old house...!
Emily appears to be regressing into a bad state of mental health
and is being particularly snappy with people after Mike Baldwin
has an argument with her when she was about to offer him the key
to Deidre's house back. So, she's feeling rather used by Mike
(after working for him for all those years etc...) so she gives
Ken the key. Ken enlists the help of Martin and Kevin to help
him 'remove' the furniture he wants from the house. Kevin decides
its more than his job is worth to help Ken in case Mike finds
out he was in on this, so chickens out. Ken moves the furniture
into his flat. When Mike finds out about this he calls the police
to report a burglary, knowing full well that Ken has taken the
stuff. The police constable comes around, he happens to be an
ex-pupil of Ken's and they get on well, the policeman tries to
talk Mike out of pressing charges but Ken gets taken in for questioning
and in the end is let off. However, later in the Rovers Mike embarasses
Ken in front of everyone calling him a thief and the father of
an illegitimate child etc., Ken goes to hit Mike but Bet stands
in between them both to stop the fight, Mike tells Ken it's not
over and he could still press civil charges against him for burglary.
Then, Ken goes home to find Tracey waiting for him to remind him
that it's her 18th birthday the next day, ken offer hers 50 pounds
as a present and Tracey acts most ungrateful, saying "Am
I only getting 50 pounds?" and so on, and so she leaves in
a huff after a big argument with Ken. On the whole, not a good
day for poor old Ken!
Don finds himself a new lady friend, he drives her in the taxi
and she finds him in the Rovers later to pay her fare as she doesn't
have enough money at the time and they have a drink together.
Liz MacDonald is now working full time in the betting shop, Des
is against this and is doing his best to make sure Liz isn't settling
in well. The boss (Shaun) fancies Liz though and wants her working
there. When Bet finds out she is working there, she goes to see
her to tell her she will find someone to take her place in the
Rovers.
Do you remember Trish Armstong? This was the girl with the young
boy who was caught shoplifting in Betterbuys and then Curly went
out with her for a while until her husband found out? Well, she
answered Alma's advert to move into the flat above the cafe, Alma
agrees to take her on but then finds out she has a son, so isn't
so keen on having a young boy above the cafe when there is only
one bedroom. She tells Mike who offers to rent out Deidre's old
house to her and her son, she's overjoyed of course but Mike did
promise her a FURNISHED house and of course, Ken has all of the
furniture now!
Gail has been away to see "Ivy in the retreat" for a
few days.
Alf helps out in the corner shop when Maude takes a few days off
and Audrey is starting to feel a bit jealous about Betty being
the mayoress.
Rita and Roger are still going out together, Rita confides to
Mavis that although she likes him enough, he just 'isn't Ted'
and feels there's something lacking between them. Roger and Mavis
start art school again this term and Roger asks Mavis what Rita
really thinks of him so Mavis tells him the truth, I think she
is secretly pleased that nothing serious will happen between Roger
and Rita. Derek is still on his health kick and drinks pints of
water in the Rovers!
